News From Masters
Fonseca Fest, the first spring performing arts showcase for Masters' student-run performing groups, will take place on Friday, May 25 in the Fonseca Center, starting at 1:00 p.m. and running all afternoon.
Cabaret Troupe, Dohters, 49 Clinton, Muse, Outspoken, Phoenix, Positive Rhythm, Salty Dogs, The Naturals, and Urban Connection are scheduled to perform. The program will include hip-hop, dance, rock, rhythm and blues, a cappella, theater, and much more.
Performances will take place throughout the Fonseca Center, including the Experimental Theater, Morris Recital Hall, the Davis Café, the gym and throughout the hallways. Thirty minute sets will be assigned for each performing group. Audience members are welcome to come and go throughout the afternoon.
The event will also feature exhibits and installations created by visual arts students.
At the festival, please consider donating to a fundraiser sponsored by the Gender and Sexuality Alliance. The Masters club is raising money for the Born This Way Foundation, which leverages academic research and partnerships in order to provide young people with kinder communities, improved mental health resources, and more positive environments – online and offline.
"By consolidating the performances into one extravaganza, the aim is to maximize the audience, Department of Performing Arts support, financial support, and technical support — and to create something entirely unique to performances at Masters," says Jennifer Carnevale, Chair of the Department of Performing Arts. "This is the first year, but our hope is to make this the must-see, must-experience event of future years."
