News From Masters
Four Middle School bands gave polished performances of rock songs and instrumental pieces during a concert on Wednesday, June 6 in Doc Wilson Hall.
The show featured Boom! and this year's three Masters of Rock (MOR) bands. Boom! performed Salsa Montuno and on snare drums, played Burundi rhythms. Boom! is a Middle School co-curricular program centered on percussion instruments.
The MOR bands –– The Baby Boomers, Heatstroke and The Bent Guitar — played songs by Christina Perri, John Lennon, Michael Jackson, R.E.M., The Talking Heads, BØRNS, The Who, The White Stripes, and others.
The show culminated with all four ensembles joining together to perform The Beatles' upbeat song "All You Need is Love."
Masters of Rock consists of three groups that meet weekly throughout the year, culminating with a performance at the end of the year, according to music teacher John-Alec Raubeson, who directs the annual event. Students are assigned to one of the groups based on their instrument, skill level and availability. They learn rock and pop songs while honing musical skills on their instrument(s) and/or voice, gaining valuable experience working in an ensemble.
